question about feeding chicks

abeercan Aug 20, 2003 06:34 PM

I recently recieved a few baby chicks from a friend who has a couple of chicken houses. i was wondering if it would be okay to feed my burm one of these. They have been fed some kind of steroid enhanced food to make them grow faster. I didnt know if that food would be of any kind of threat to my burm. I have never fed my burms anything but mice, rats and rabbits but i was thinking of trying these since they were free. If i cant feed these to my burm i guess ill raise them my self and they will eventually become food for me! LOL Thanks in advance to all that reply

Whenever I gave my Burm chicks I was told to cut off the legs and beak to make them easier to digest( so they didn't get caught up inside and injure the snake). I did this with thawed chicks, my Burm was small, and I only did this a couple of times.

I have fed my burm chickens before. Actually they were 1/2 grown roosters. He's eaten a few, but it is obvious that he would rather have rabbits. He seemed to have a harder time getting them down, so now I stick to rabbits.

It's ok to feed your snake chicks - just be warned that poultry often makes for very, VERY, ugly snake poop (often somewhat runny too). I've seen this myself, and heard the same from others. It doesn't always happen, but when it does - oh boy...
