How do you ship your snakes???

tsusnakeguy Aug 27, 2007 07:00 PM

I know there have been a few shipping questions but I am curious as to how everyone ships there snakes. So since I have babies to sell I need to start worrying about shipping. I know some people do delta dash but I don't like that idea for a couple of reasons. One I hear it is expensive and two not everyone lives near an airport. I have also heard that getting Fed Ex certified is only for business to business shipping. I want to know what you do and how well it has been working out for you????

I personally ship thru Fedex. I became a verified shipper the hard way. A few years ago was my first online selling/shipping reptiles. I walked right up to the UPS counter and told them that These Boas needed to be handled carefully - and that was the end of me going to UPS. I went to Fedex, not telling them what I was shipping. Two hours later they called me and said that I needed to get my box - they x-rayed it and I wasn't allowed to ship Boas though them. Then for the rest of that year, I used DHL (being secretive) and it worked, except for one of my customers said that the driver was twirling the box in the air when he delivered it. The next year, I pursued getting a fedex account. Yes they want it to be business to business, but I explained that this is a home-business for most of us, and their was no problems. I did have to send a box to Fedex, packaged the way that I would as if I were sending a Boa. They needed to test it's strength and durability before sending me a waiver to sign. I used to have to show my paperwork everytime I shipped a box. They've gotten more relaxed nowadays, and I don't need to show anything to them anymore. Their have been shipping mess-ups from every shipper. So far I haven't had a single problem , and I just like to know that I have their permission to ship.
