SIASAT DAILY (Hyderabad, India) 18 August 07 22 snakes rescued on eve of Nagapanchami
Hyderabad: Members of several city-based animal welfare organisations working to protect snakes from the clutches of snake-charmers on the eve of Nagpanchami have caught 22 snakes from different parts of the twin cities on Friday.
Volunteers from Bharatiya Praani Mitra Sangh and People for Animals have caught 11 snakes each on Friday. Most of the snakes caught by animal welfare officers were severely injured with their fangs gouged-out and mouths stitched to render them impotent. “We will handover these snakes to Nehru Zoological Park officials for treatment and recovery.
Those snakes that are grievously injured would have to be sent to Crocodile and Snake Park of Chennai for further treatment,” informed Chief Advisor, Bharatiya Praani Mitra Sangh, Swami Swayam Bhagwan Das.
