I'm looking for PSP 6 Experts

jmartin104 Aug 28, 2007 06:48 PM

When I add things to my images like borders and such, I seem to get "noise" in the end result. Why is this and how can I retain the clarity and detail of the original photo? This photo is an example of the "noise".

TIA!

My non-expert advice is that you are saving the file compressed or saving in a very low resolution. Your photo is only 51 kb.

Yep. That's one thing wrong. Thanks!

I'm so much of a non-expert that I don't know what noise is but I can say that, to me anyway, that is an awesome pic of a great looking animal.

Not sure what camera you are using, but make sure the surrounding light is behind you and that your Macro function is always on!!!!!!!!!

Save the file and edit as a high resolution file...add your borders before you compress the file!

Then you can save it as a JPEG file....if you save it as a smaller JPEG right off the file gets compressed and by adding the borders it may further compress your edges.....

You could also try unsharpen mask on the edges(of the snake) that you select and turn up the resolution.

Is this a setting in PSP? I'm saving the base NEF (Nikon) to a jpeg and then modifying that. Someone mentioned compression and I had that on but now set to the lowest setting.

I think this is what I'm doing. I guess I need to make a copy of the NEF and modify that in PSP - if I can even do that in PSP.

Thanks for the input!

If you are saving the RAW file as a JPEG...save it as a high res JPEG.

As soon as you save anything to a JPEG it will compress it... causing that effect. If you are saving to a low res JPEG suitable for the NET or emailing that will be a smaller file that is seriously compressed. Save it as a TIFF or a PICT, edit it THEN save as a JPEG!

Jay, you need to Save AS.... not Save for web... or if you are saving AS then you need to turn up your jpeg quality... I always use the highest quality for jpegs but then again I own a web hosting company so I am not worried about bandwidth :P

I'm not saving for the web - at least not on purpose. I'm going to check out my save settings. Thanks!
