Off to India and the Chicago show

jmonahan Aug 28, 2007 10:39 PM

I know I am hijacking the Indigo forum, but it seems to be the default for large colubrids - which I think is a good thing

I'm off to India for a few weeks and wonder if any one here has experience with ptyas. Locals claim they get 12-13 foot. Supposedly common n the area I'm going.

Also - who is going to Chicago show? Any spilotes, indigo people? What about importers?

Joe

I've had tables at the Chicago (Tinley Park) show every year since it began seven years ago. I think it is the single best show in the country. That, of course, is from a vendor's perspective, but it is definitely worth attending.

I'll second that! My facility, the Wildlife Discovery Center, has had an educational venomous exhibit for the past five years and its always the highlight of the year for us. Lots of great folks, great fun and it attracts a lot of visitors.

I will plan on saying Hi to you in Chicago. I have an importer friend of mine setting up export for Laos and I will be trying to set up some breeding pairs of Ptyas over there. A few came into Canada and did not do well, they stress bigtime. I am hoping to bring in hatchlings of carinata and mucosa Sorry we could not visit longer in Florida but I can give you details in Chicago.......Bill

PS nice having you on this forum wish we could get Don "------" to post!

Now, i have to see the size those korros reach...
For the carinatus, the order is in proceed and they should be there before winter. Mucosus don't interest me, they are not big enough.
Take care!

Not Brian, but I talked to you at Strictly's table in Chicago a couple years ago. I recal you bought up all his spilotes

I wonder if there will be a spilotes or indigo table at the show. I don't recall seeing much previously.

The ball python gangs ruled I'm afraid. I hope the pendulum swings back from those lethargic snakes to the ones with more interesting behavior.

Ball pythons are sort of the tree stumps of the snake world. Plus everyone dealing with them seem to be on the "get rich quick" bandwagon, or pyramid scheme. Boring.

I'll post anything I find in the Ptyas realm when I get back at the end of the month. Locals tell me they get over 12 foot, official records indicate thats a stretch.

It will be nice to see some Ptyas worked with in the states. I am focusing on Pseustes this year. I bred my spilotes into F2 generation and then shipped them to Don Bordner who now has one of the biggest spilotes collections I know of. After talking with Chuck we figured out a few tricks with Ptyas which seem to be working, tempting me to bring some in.
