Fire skink never laid eggs...

Jeremy Aug 20, 2003 08:11 PM

My fire skinks bred 6-7 weeks ago, but the female has not laid eggs or even gained much weight. She is eating good, and I don't think she is egg bound or anything, what do you think?
Has anyone else's fire skinks taken this long, or do you think that the mating was unsuccesful?
Thanks a lot.

My female dropped a clutch that the male ate before I had a chance to extract them. Since then, I've set up a separate brood cage for her to stay in until she lays.

I can't recall the gestation time for these guys, so I could't say whether or not your's is overdue. Keep pumping the crickets in there. She'll eat better than double her normal rate while the eggs are developing. You should notice her basking more frequently and for longer duration just prior to laying.
