Do I have bad eggs?

StevensX3 Aug 20, 2003 08:20 PM

I have eggs that were layed by a leusistic. They have been incubating for 12 weeks at about 78-82 degrees.I thought that they were good but one of the eggs at around 10 weeks started to get a spot on it that was a reddish colorand the eggs shell started to thin out. now it is soft to the touch, when it use to be hard. there is a dark spot in the egg but if I candle it I dont see it moving and it has been in the same spot for a while. I also have noticed some small white bugs on the egg. I have clean it off a few times but they keep comming back. please let me know if this has happened to anyone out there, and what the outcome was thanks

If you have been incubating the eggs at 78-82 then they should hatch around 50-60 days. When the egg softens up it usually begins to dent and within 24 hours the lizard should hatch. Did it start to mold or smell? If the egg still looks good then keep it till it smells turns color.

84 days may be a record if they hatch. the longest ive heard of is 74. its up to you if you wanna keep them, obviously, but i doubt they will hatch. it kinda sounds to me like your incubation substrate was too wet? could that be it? is there water under the eggs, or is the substrate relatively dry?

I have tried to keep it moist but am carefull not to put in to much water. I hate to throw them so I guess I'll wait a little longer
