Arizona Black Rattlesnake (cerebus)

zhughes Aug 29, 2007 12:26 PM

This is to the persons who were quite happy to take the cerebus I found the other night. I am banking maybe you just could not remember my email (unlikely). That is a crappy way to "do" a fellow enthusiast. To those who read this I came across a really nice cerebus the other night. Because I am not currently keeping herps and was out checking new areas for fun I had no interest in capturing him. Some other herpers came down the road and were having no luck. I asked they send me a pic of the snake as it was the first one I have ever encountered. They assured me of a pic and gladly took the snake. No pic yet. Herpers have become a world of punks...

totally agree, and too much giving out info on the internet. also love the famous line "am going to so and so and will only be taking pictures, can anybody tell me places to go?"

zhughes Aug 29, 2007 03:26 PM

The "picture" thing is played out no doubt. Ironically one guy said something about forgetting his camera though he seemed like a nice enough guy and did let me know I was in the right area (first trip to that location). If you or anyone knows of a rather big guy that wears glasses, said his name was "randy" and he breeds Green Ratsnakes (Senticolis triapsis intermedia), also said he lives in the Phoenix area, additionally he was with a guy named "tom" who is originally from Sweden. I would greatly appreciate their emails. Really p.o.'s me that they would happily take the animal I encountered then not have the decency to at least send me pics. I wish that snake were sitting in aden now and not in the cage of a welcher. Any help would be greatly appreciated. cheers, big ears.

whoa, no offense but i think it's bad judgement to allow other herpers to collect your find, after all it's your find, you should decide whether or not to keep, photgraph, release, etc.(within the law or personal morals)By the way people post those questions half of the time because they actually need help, especially if you're flying somewhere you really have no info on and just hope to get out for a day or two to find some herps. After all trading info and views is a big part of herping.

Learn from your mistake (if you feel that's what it was) and let it go. I can see you're stressed out about this and that doesn't do you any good. Also consider that the picture may show up yet. Did you get a promise as to how soon they'd send the picture? Maybe they don't realize how important it is to you and are just taking thier time. If that's the case, you don't need to be calling these people punks. You may be insulting people who still have good intentions but just aren't hurrying them along.

Look... everyone: if you catch a reptile you don't intend to keep, then let it go. Let's face it... the best part of snake collecting is actually finding the animal. Animals given away often don't mean as much, intrinsically. Let others, particularly strangers, find thier own herps.

But most of all.... don't stress out dude. It hurts only you! (Always remember: don't let as_holes get ya down)

That is good advice, life's too short!

and the contact info for the people who collected the snake you found?

TomSundin Sep 10, 2007 10:29 PM

Hi Zak!
I simply said that I'd send you the pictures of you and the snake, I didn't say when.
I've been very busy lately and this is the first I have time to actually sit down and look at my recent herping pictures.

The fact that you resort to name calling on a public forum before you even make an honest attempt to get in touch with us shows your true character and I am NOT impressed.
Now THAT "is a crappy way to "do" a fellow enthusiast." You should take Denis advice.
I personally have no interest in your ugly cerb, it was for a friend.

Here are the pictures promised. Your "really nice cerebus" isn't all that hot.

I agree herpers have become a world of punks...

BPO Sep 11, 2007 10:08 AM

I agree it's not the prettiest Cerberus I have ever seen from that road but it's also at night and those animals typically get much darker during the day when it's hot. The male I found back in 2001 is always changing colors from lite gray to jet black.

zhughes Sep 15, 2007 02:55 PM

I guess you did not get the email. No need for a pic but thank you all the same. cheers, big ears.
