I know that if a Striped Amel mates with a Butter corn, the babies would be all Amels het Caramel het Striped.
Would they turn out looking like regular colored Amels or would they look even a tiny bit different?
Thanks.

These are not striped but you can get an idea how caramel affects an amel.

if het stripe or het caramel affected appearance at all.
As far as I know het stripe and het caramel do not exhibit any visible changes so they should all just look like normal amels.
Sean.
I thought there was some indication that the caramel gene may affect head pattern even in heterozygous form.
I'll try to find where I read that.

Actually...there are many times where snakes that are het caramel exhibit a lot more yellow then their non het counterparts.
take a clutch of amels possibly het caramel...I would be willing to bet that within a few sheds you could pick out the ones that truly were het caramel by the yellow.
obviously this isn't a 100% guarantee but there is noticeable difference quite often
look at the extra yellow in the two snakes pictured above.
That is why he posted them. The caramel influence (yellow) seems pretty evident to me.
I was at a show a couple of weeks ago and a vendor and I were looking at a nice little hypo he had.
It was listed as hypo het ? because the person he got it from wasn't sure, but we were both pretty much convinced it was het caramel due to the yellow undertones. He had a few hypos het caramel on the table and they were identical. You could just "see" it.

I didn't realize there was any partial dominance/exhibited trait with the hetrozygous caramel.
Thanks for the info,
Sean.
Those two snakes are het caramel. All of my amel het caramel have more yellow to them, Some of them are almost orange(amel motley).
That one is a keeper! Is she gravid or husky? Hope gets a little pudgy sometimes so i will skip a meal every now and then.

Once they are full grown, they can afford to skip some meals (kind of like us humans).
I was recently given an adult snake by a museum that had fed it every 3 weeks for the 7 or 8 years they had it...it's every bit as thick and solid as the adults I have that feed every week.

back in the 70's I didn't have a lot of info to draw on and I used to keep my snakes on three week feeding schedule.
I talked to a few people and we just figured they wouldn't average a good meal more then once a month anyway so once every three weeks seemed pretty good.
never had problems. They always seemed nice and healthy.

Why this "morph" is not more popular I do not know. I recently picked up an outcrossed female from South Mountain and they are awesome as far as albinos go. Here is a pick from his photo gallery of what his adults can look like. Obviously, you will get an amel with a more yellowish influence
Thanks, everyone, for all your pics and info. It's good to know the caramel gene actually does affect the color of the resulting amels. Really pretty, I think (at least IMHO)!
