Prolapse

nyoka7 Aug 29, 2007 04:52 PM

Anyone ever had their snake prolapse? Mine did and the vet pushed it back in, but theres no guarantee it will stay in place. Any suggestions or thoughts? He told me if the inflamation doesn't go down by not feeding him, his anus will continue to prolapse leading to death

This isnt uncommon with Chondros. I don't have first hand experience with it but aside from not feeding for a week or 2 to avoid it happening again.

You might want to post there as they may have more experience with it.

Back in my Chondro breeding days i had a handfull of hatchlings that prolapsed.. After it was pushed back in i waited 2 weeks to feed again and then started feeding the smallest meals i could to avoid it happening again. and, in most cases it did not happen again..

don't rush the next meal, keep the next few meals very small and keep us posted on your progress.

don't feed him for a while. When you do start, give him really small meals.

If it happens again there is more that can be done. Usually a vet can put a single stitch through each side of the cloaca. This still allows the snake to defecate but it can tighten it up enough to prevent prolapse.
