Cedar drift wood has anyone put any in

Cedar drift wood has anyone put any in a tank with reptiles? I thought that because it's been water logged for such a long time that the chemicals may have been extracted from the wood.

Yeah,.....cedar is normally NOT good for reptiles because of the OIL in the cedar......if the piece of driftwood you're talking about adding to the cage is all bleached out from being in the water and sun, and it looks like a fossil that has been adrift for a decade......has NO scent of cedar at all, then it should be absolutely fine to use....period.

If it still has the reddish coloration, and you can still smell the odor of the cedar, then I wouldn't use it at all!

End of story.

best regards, ~Doug

But can you be sure all of the toxic oils are out ? I wouldn't risk it at any time.
I would wonder why you want this particular piece of wood when you know its cedar .. why risk your reptiles health ?

I assume this piece is very nice looking but is your reptiles health / life worth a nice looking piece of cedar ?
