Lets see some beauties!

RiseAbove Aug 29, 2007 07:00 PM

Everyone post some pics of your beauties. Taiwan, Chinese, Cave, Blue, Mocquards, Yunnans, and even Indonesian or Japanese if anyone has any of these really rare guys. Whatever you have, we want to see it. I can never get enough of these guys. Here is my 07 blue as he grows.

And his lair.

He is about to shed again so I'll have a few new pics soon.

You have some awesome beauties. That yellow female mocquards is the best one I've seen. Nice girthy Taiwan as well. How long is this blue in the pic and how long is it now?
Thanks,
John

Thanks John. The blue is about 9ft in the photo. He is about 3 years older now and is about 9ft 5ins. Randy

I'm not really into most of the Chinese rats(there are a few exceptions though),....but that "calico" is pretty choice!!

She's one of my favorites. I also like the fact that Chinese beauties don't get as big as some of the other subspecies of taeniurus.

Cool pics, those calicos are really nice. Do you happen to know the length and weight of your biggest Chinese?

Thanks John, I love these snakes. Calico is the morph of the female with eggs and the neonate, but the male (in the water jug) is phenotypically normal, but het for the trait. No, I don't have any measurements for the big male, but I estimate around five feet or slightly more, for the length. Taeniurus is one of the smaller subspecies of beauty snake, and Schulz says max for them is 180 cm. I do need to get some lengths and weights for these guys, but they don't much like handling. They are flighty but not bitey.

This shows the blue color a little better. He's one of the "bluer" blue beauties I've seen.

Could very well be the best Blue Beauty I've ever seen, and I thought I had seen it all.

Got lucky with this guy. He was borderline emaciated and weak when I picked him up at a show. Fortunately, he really enjoys eating, perhaps even more so than biting. I'd really like to pick up a nice female. Real nice looking ones seem to be far and few between these days.

RiseAbove Aug 31, 2007 11:26 AM

Yeah that is such an awesome snake. Seeing the pics you posted of him back in January is what really made me want a blue beauty.

Gotta love the beauties. How's the temperment on your taiwans. I had quite a few a couple years back and suffered many the mistaken for food accidents. Other than that they got super tame and inquistive (at least about food).

donv Aug 31, 2007 07:57 PM

I'm a big fan of the entire beauty clan. You just have to get over the fact that your not going to be dealing with a 9' cuddly calm corn snake, but rather a 9' coil of attitude that can nail you in the face from a hell of a long distance away. Despite his attitude it was the taiwans that I used to own that were the most trecherous to handle. The combination of their tameness and python like hunger made them an adventure to handle at times. I swear there were multiple occasions that a taiwan would just bite me out of the blue and try and eat me. This is without possibly smelling like a rodent or any other animal but me. They were spectacular though and I hope to find some nice ones in the near future.

Temperament wise - the Taiwan varies....greatly. Very inquisitve, always watching me when I'm in the snake room but will back away sometimes when you open the door.

If she is settled in her hollow log, you can take the whole log out, put it on the floor, clean the viv and then pop the log (with her still inside) back in no fuss.

Other times, she will try to bite that hand that feeds. Ah well!!

The two blue beauties I have are cb yearlings now and have being little darlings, very nippy at first but calmed. However they have just been moved up a viv size and have become alot more defensive - more space to call their own I guess.

Hopefully they will calm down again soon, but man do they eat like pigs lol
