Killer Bee to normal

Claudeballs Aug 29, 2007 08:55 PM

If you bred a male Killer Bee to a normal female what would you get? Each egg would have a 50% chance of being Bumble Bee and 50% chance of being Pastel. Am I right ?

That's correct. A killer bee is homozygous for the pastel mutation so all of its offspring get pastel from it. The killer bee is only heterozygous for the spider so each offspring has a 50/50 chance of getting spider or normal for spider. So considering both genes killer bee X normal will give eggs with 50/50 chance between bumble bee and just pastel.

Hey Claude. I believe you have a 25% chance each of Bee, Pastel, Spider, and Normal. I think. But it also seems like the odds on a Bee would be lower since you's have to hit on 2 traits, not just one. I am pretty positive though that the odds would have to be lower than 50%.

Check out Randy's reply - he's got the odds right. Killer bee is a superpastel, so all the offspring would be pastels - 100% chance of pastels. The spider gene would be 50%, since it's a dominant (co-dom, whatever) trait. So from that pairing, you'd get either pastels or bumblebees - no normals or spiders.

Thanks everyone. I thought that was right but just needed a little assurance . Claude

I was thinking from a Bee, not a Killer. Totally screwed that up. Sorry.
