My final clutch...

flavor Aug 29, 2007 11:33 PM

was born early this morning. All 100% het for hypomelanism. My female became active last night for the first time in months. I knew she was close. She was spending a lot of time in the water dish and that made me a little nervous. i almost pulled it out. But then I decided to just leave a big plastic fern in the dish and go to bed. Today, I woke up to a ton of baby snekes in the water dish and climbing all over the fern. it really would have made an excellent picture. Unfortunately, the stupid battteries in the camera were dead. Sorry. Anyways, here's the stats:

Age of female: 3 years
# babies: 20 live (one drowned in the dish, one was born deformed and I decided to euthanize it). 13.5 (I know - Damn)
Smallest baby: 29.5 grams
Largest baby: 32.2 grams
Days from post-ovulatory shed: 105 exactly

That's it for me this year. That's 44 happy, healthy babies. Good luck to everyone else with the birthing season. Even though I'm swamped with schoolwork, I'll try to check in to pick up your stats when I can.

I had my final litter last night as well (in fact I had two litters born last night). When storms come through I always get breedings, and BABIES. One of these litters was my first ever litter of 100%chance hets. It was a small litter from two virgin animals. 4.4 with one fully formed dead one and eight slugs (DRAT).... no record of ovulation and no exact weight, BUT they were quite big and remarkably un-bitey.

Best of luck with the new school year...

I'm sorry your sex ration didn't work out in your favor this year Mike but there is always next year but congrats on the babies you got and I know you're thankful for them. Best of luck with putting weight on the mommas and your future virgins next year
