DAILY RECORD (Glasgow, UK) 27 August 07 Snake's Alive.. And On The Bus
A snake missing for eight months has been reunited with its owner - after it tried to board a bus.
The driver and the passengers could not believe their eyes when the 3ft California kingsnake slithered up to a bus stop.
Driver Tam Clark coaxed the animal into a box and handed it over to animal welfare workers.
And yesterday the two-year-old beast, called Magic, was reunited with owner Declan Harley, 14.
Declan, of East Kilbride, Lanarkshire, said: "When I heard a snake matching Magic's description had been found locally I couldn't believe it.
"We are not exactly sure where he's been but we think he must have found a warm place and maybe just went into hibernation.
"I'm delighted to have him back. I thought he was a goner."
The snake, which escaped on Christmas Eve, turned up in Whitehills, East Kilbride, near Declan's home.
Driver Tam, 48, said: "I spotted what looked like a fairly big brown and yellow snake.
"I was pretty surprised when it turned out to be just that.
"I stopped the bus and all the passengers started snapping it on their mobile phones.
"One passenger was a young boy who lived nearby and he volunteered to go and get a shoebox.
"By the time he got back, the snake was sitting on the wheel of my bus. I just held the box next to it and hoped for the best."
