My first in 3 years. How exciting and it is so cute!! Already very mobile, basking and drinking water that I drop on it's nose. It arrived yesterday evening at 53 days incubation and there are 2 more eggs from the clutch that have not hatched yet. (Is that ok or normal?) This was the one egg from the clutch that we handled and candled and I am not sure what to think about that. The egg in fact was leaking small amounts of fluid at two different times, which has also started us thinking about the fact that it healed itself twice.
Watching this little one hatch was amazing. And just think, wild hatchlings have to not only get out of the egg, but crawl up through the sand they were buried in with their uncoordinated new little legs. Such incredible tiny little things!
Eve, I read your care sheet but cannot find if temps for hatchlings should be different than those for older lizards. My babe is on paper towels at about 88F and has a warmer basking rock, it is only mid 90's and I wonder if I should increase that? Also, today babe lost his yoke sack and dripped a few drops of blood. That was not supposed to happen yet, right? He is still very active and has not seemed to be bothered by it.
Yes, we took photos during and after hatching, and I will post some as soon as possible. Still hoping for siblings, in fact, I better go take a peek at those eggs now!

The tummy should be fine and just dry up on it's own where the cord came off. Just watch it, if it were to look reddish/swollen, sore , than dab clean with some warm water, or watered down povidine iodine solution. A dab of antibiotic ointment works well also. Usually they are fine though.
