box turtle cage indoor or outdoor???

centraltexsnake Aug 30, 2007 08:15 PM

I had someone give me a couple of three toed box turtles, to me they seem unhappy in there current enclosure so I was wondering if building something outside might be more to there liking? if anyone has any comments or thoughts please let me know, also could you post pics of indoor and outdoor box turtle setups?

THANX IN ADVANCE

An outdoor pen for box turtles is always best if you can do it right. However, doing it right means having some kind of screened cover and also sinking wire deep into the soil to prevent them digging out. Still, depending on where you live, you might still need to have a indoor accommodations for when the weather turns cold.

seeing your screen name, I am to assume you are in central texas right? Where at? I'm in killeen. I knew of someone here in Killeen, acutally one of my little brothers freinds, who had an outdoor pen becuase she gave us some babies. She had them in a simple wood pen dug down a little in to the ground and all kinds of shrubs placed sporatically. she kept them out there all year round and must have been doing something rihgt becuase she had a massive amount of babies she was getting rid of that were just popping up outta the soil. Sorry I cant be of more help but I have no personal experience with it.... Jon
