Sleepy Dragon

j5th Aug 20, 2003 09:29 PM

Hey I just got my dragon about a week ago. For some reason he is always sitting in his cage with his eyes closed all day long. The only time he ever wakes up is to eat. I took him back to the pet store thinking he was sick and the second he was put in his other cage he woke up and acted normal. He assured me he was just getting used to his new surroundings and was uncomfortable. A week later same thing. he rarely opens his eyes. Do you think this is normal or he needs something? I haven't got a chance to get him a heat lamp although he does have a UV light. I have a 29 gallon for now cause he's small but I wil eventually upgrade. Let me know what u think. Thanks

You don't have heat? What are the cage temps? Dragons are very sensitive to temperature, and can get respritory infections easily if not kept warm enough. IMO you shouldn't have bought the dragon until you had all of the required supplies.

My dragons close their eyes too. I think they are alot like 2 year olds. "If I cant see you then you cant see me" kinda thing. Thats why peek-a-boo is so amusing to them. Anyway, when my dragons dont want anymore food, or I spray them with water, or they just get tired of looking at my mug when I am talking to them, they close their eyes as if to say "Good day sir, NO, I said GOOD DAY!" My dragons are pretty spoiled.

I think your little one must be getting used to the new environment and possibly closes its eyes when it feels over stimulated. Hope this helps.
