Brumating

donedeal Aug 31, 2007 01:29 PM

I'm new to breeding snakes. I have a few Western Hognoses and a few Eastern Hognoses. I live in South Florida. The temperatures are all over the place in the fall and winter time. It can get as cold as the 40's here or be as high as the 90's, but most of the time it is pretty warm. Can I brumate in a chest freezer possibly? How about a refrigerator? I've read other posts on here and I've heard other people say that they put them up on a shelf in the garage, but it's way to hot in there even in the winter time. Any help that anyone can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thank You!

I use a full size fridge and a ranco controller from ww granger that fails in the off position. Power turns off at 55 deg; I was told you can’t use a freezer because of the evaporator coil being to short or something. It also doubles as my incubator in the summer with heat tape and a controller

Some people in Florida use wine coolers for brumating small collections.

You can check your local Home Depot for a wine cooler. I know they just switched models and they may still have some of the old models at a very good price.
