This is about my beardies vent so it's kinda wierd to warn u,

hi i have alot of beardies and have bred etc. and they all regularly go to the vet. I can't keep up with all their little problems. I was JUST at the vet! she says i'm a great mom and worry too much.. hoping this is the case..anyways Please help me if you can tell me what might be happening with one of my young ones.I'll have to make an appt. i guess.

Lee, he is full grown, 1 yr. had him since conception. anyways this wierd stuff keeps coming out of his butt(vent). i DONT know what it is!! my vet said he is getting fat last time she saw him. i pulled what appeared to be a small bone out of his vent a few wks. ago. he had had a pinkie and the vet said that was normal, but i just described the piece to her, she had not seen it when it happened nor did i bring it in. What I concluded to be a "bone" was half hanging out of his but so i pulled it out and it seemed to be hard, i couldn't break it.

Today, I just soaked him, he hasn't pooped in days (he's eating)and there was more of that same stuff stuck in his but/"vent". I pulled out a piece it is chewy and tan it's NOT poo..and looks like it could be tissue. What the hell is this? does he have hemoroids? i don't wanto hurt his manhood! It's the same stuff that was hangin out a few weeks ago the "bone" but that 1st piece had hardened and now i think maybe it wasn't a bone. When i gently wiped his vent at this second piece hanging out it came out. Theres a 3rd piece in there and if i pull gently he contracts his muscles it goes back in -I really think it's part of his muscle now that got inflamed and is hanging out. But then why would these other pieces be coming off? and he's not bleeding, nor is his but pink or yellow and sore. I'm so scared and I guess i have to make yet ANOTHER vet appt. Before i go b/c i prob. won't be able to be see for a week..does ANYONE know what this COULD be or has had this same problem?? thanks for input.also i know you can invert the hemipenes and look at that but i don't know how to do that. i'm not sure if that piece hanging out is something attached. but it's NOT his manhood i've seen that be4 when they breed it's not that. please help.

thanks ,
Kristen

I have no idea either. I'd bring it to the vet for analysis.

What you are describing sounds very similar to what owners of male iguanas sometimes experience. It's commonly called a sperm plug. Sperm builds up around the hemipenes and starts to dry. In iguanas these can be excreted and will hold a shape, like an L or H shape. They are cream to tan color and usually have the texture of hard rubber. If a portion has been protruding out of the vent for a while it can get quite hard and dry. Try giving the lizard a nice warm soak and then gently pull on the visable portion. Most of the time it will come out easily. If you feel resistance quit pulling! You can see a photo at the bottom of the linked page.

Whatever it is it would be a good idea to schedule a vet visit.
