This morning my girlfriend picked up one of our Yellow foots and found a worm on the bottom of his shell. I killed the worm with some alcohol and had a look at it.
Some info no the worm:
Length: between 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch long
Color: white with dark digestive track
Movement: About 1/4 was on the shell and the other 3/4 was moving around (Stopped moving after contact with alcohol)
I took the little guy and put it under the microscope and noticed it had hair on its body. I am not sure if the hair goes down its body or only on sections of its body. Looking at it - I would say the hair is on lines down the most of the body.
I have taken a photo of the worm in the microscope (I think this is the head - but it was very hard to tell the head from the tail.) You can see clearly see the hair.
Another thing to note - I have NEVER seen any worms in the Tort's stools, I have found what appeared eggs - and drenched them on discovery.
Oh another import piece of information - my Torts live on sandy soil and there are earth worms in the soil (worms have come in with the pots of grass).
