I bred a Jelly brooks to a DH WS x axanthic. I had two eggs hatch. One was a pewter and the other a dead in the egg WS. Could be just one of those anomalities that happens with breeding and does not mean the PB is related to the WS gene.

I have another small batch hathcing of this same breeding in two weeks. I guess we will know more then. But I think that the WS that hathced was just a rare influence. Not "supposed" to happen. Zenny popped out something from a hypo brooks x going that looked like a hyperethritic as well. I think it was an premy baby but the possiblity exists that these genes will surprise us at time.

Has anyone else heard one snake being non het and the other being het yet still produced a reccessive?

Hey Halfdead, have you considered getting out and finding your own locality Brooks, since you are in s. Florida? I'm really supportive of conservation but adding some fresh blood to the current stock is probably a good idea every few years. I can tell you to consider looking in prime habitat along any state-maintained road where they mow the grass and it builds up in a thick mat along the edge of a canal or wet area. Flip those mats like flipping boards. Another hint- think turtle eggs! I will bet you won't find anything as nice as the Brooks you already own, though. Also be mindful of fire ants, killer bees, gators, pythons, moccassins, poison sumac, horse flys, west nile virus, encephalitis, Seminole cops, bears, big hogs, panthers, coral snakes and rattlesnakes. Dang, I wish I could go with you!

Haha, Oh i have been out hunting many of times in the past 16 years. I have never seen a Brooks though.

I usually am in the trees grabbing rat snakes.

I would love to add some wild blood to my collection, It is almost 90 degrese out today but i am always ready to ride loxahatchee down to the glades

now that i am taking up brooks i think that will be a more regular ride.

It is predicted to rain today, any one know some good tricks on herping?

Ah, the canals in Florida...been there. Found some really nice kings over the years. I would, however, advise some snake boots or leggins...there is, as we all know, a variety of "critters" around there that bite...not Hot Wax (lol, joke Rainer). Good luck. Helane
