beginner here..Have question about shedding? ? ?

svt-sinister Aug 20, 2003 11:22 PM

I just bought a Queretaro Kingsnake and it looks like its about to shed cause his eyes are cloudy and skin is dull. My question is, How long does shedding take? And when in shedding mode, he mostly stays in 1 spot for a long time, is this normal? ? ?

Your Queratero (Ruthveni) will be cloudy for about 3--4 days then clear up. After he looks clear he will shed in the next day or two. It is normal for him to stay in hiding, especially because his sight is limited (Like looking through a milk jug). He will not feed usually when his eyes are milky. I don't feed mine until after shed. Others may feed an opaque snake.

Another thought....don't know if you'd want to as he may be cranky while shedding but we take our male & female after the cloudy phase has pasted (before the actual shed) and handle them (rub them) with vitiman E oil on our hands.

It helps the shed come off easier & usually in one piece & we've been told it would help with mites, although we don't know that fact to be true or not as ours have always been mite free.
