air conditioning

rana888 Sep 02, 2007 09:40 PM

Does anyone have trouble with air conditioner failure do the the odor from a mouse colony? I have had several units develop holes in the copper pipe that led to loss of freon. Has anyone found a brand of air conditioner that can withstand that dusty and somewhat corrosive (from ammonia) environment? Thanks, rana888

You need 24/7 window exhaust. I use a portable a/c and swamp cooler unit. I live in the desert so the odor isn't as much of a problem as it is in a humid climate.

Thank you for the information. I have a very large number of rodents and a whole-house furnace fan mounted in the ceiling of the building for exhaust. It is on a timer, so while it moves substantial amounts of air, it is not continuous. Could you tell me what the swamp cooler does? I am really not that familiar with that piece of equipment. Thanks again, Rana888

a swamp cooler cools air by having air blow across a mesh sorta with water on it. an air conditioner cools the air with refrigeration. a swamp cooler only works well in a dry part of the country where the humidity is low.

I didn't know what a swamp cooler was until I moved to the desert. It is basically an A/C that uses water to cool. A pump pumps water behind a fan that blows the cool air. It was free and works great. But I have to use the A/C and exhaust fan also so the room doesn't get too humid. I don't even think there are swamp coolers sold at stores in humid climates.
