Hi Wolfgang,
Thanks!!
With my left hand I distracted the snake, and shot right before I thought he was going to spit. This was the fifth pic, the other four where to early or to late..
I think it is much easier if you are with two persons, so one could distract the snake and the other can make the pic.
Best,
Freek
Hey Freek,
nice pics and an excellent timing.
Didn't know you own a black mamba.

Bud,
Not trying to pry, but I was wondering whether you would be willing to share what sort of permanent eye damage you suffered?
Thanks,
Wolfgang

Well WW,
It was a point blank shot from about a foot
a n.nigricollis it cut the cornea and I could not focus for several months,I had help and rinsing in less than 15 seconds after the incident then it was clear it was severe. so I used some of MY OWN PERSONAL south african poly dilutied to further rinse it did not even help at all. but We continued rinsing with milk,poly,h20 for at least a hour or more.
and I was blind for several days with eyes crusted over.
I can tell there is some residual damage to the cornea due to the fact I have problems when I use a stereo microscope.
and far off distance plus it seems my right eye does not work as good as it had been before.
I see a lot of people with spitters and hear stories about
they simply rinsed it out in a few min and were on their way.
bUt all the people that have been hit by this species tell me the same story BAD damage and I if some body did not get It rinsed out Quick it could be all over for their eyes period.
possible blindness.
nasty venom.
bud
It sure does sound like N. nigricollis packs soemthign pretty special - I never heard of this sort of thing after any other spitter, espcially not if it was washed out quickly.
Thanks for sharing that!
Cheers,
Wolfgang

I have been to see Budman's snake environment. he actually BUILT a SEALED snakehouse that is sturdier than most houses. It is amazing, and he keeps it perfect for the snakes. i have even helped him take a picture of one of his egyptian naja's, and that snake he had to get rid of because it was too nasty. It has a bad temprament, and tried to bite him every chane it could! It even bit him once right after he milked it. Budman is the most AMAZING herp i've ever seen! he has become practically IMMUNE to venomous reptiles. He EVEN got bit by a frigging DEATH ADDER, and DID NOT go to the hospital. Hell, he even once got bit by his GREEN MAMBA & we went out to see a movie with his arm all wrapped up in an ace bandage! and he NEVER went to the hospital. Budman is UNBELIEVABLE!
