Adult Male Ball Size? You have exper

tumbslt Sep 03, 2007 10:16 AM

Hey everyone,

I was just planning on getting a male ball python approximately 3 months old and was just wondering how big I can expect him to get. What I have read online states around 2' to 3' feet. But that seems like it would have to be the lower spectrum to me. I was just hoping some of you could share what sizes you have experienced with your adult male pythons? (sorry I know this question is lame) just curious,

Thanks,
Shannon

Males tend to be alot smaller than females, I am sure there are exceptions to the rule . I have a male that is 4 years old and top wight has been 1200 he is also no the best eater, he eats a mouse a week sometimes skips weeks. And always goes off feed in the fall to spring.

Hi!

2' is the very smallest end of the spectrum, and not a good representative of the average. Balls in general tend to be between 3' and 5', with a select few being up to 6' or as little as 2'. Most of the adult males I've seen have been at least 3 1/2'. My adult female is 5', and my adult males are 4'. Gender is no guarantee of small (or large) size, by the way. It's just how things tend to turn out, on average.

If you want a snake that'll stay 2', check out a sandboa or a rosy boa male. Those species rarely get over 2', especially for a male. If you want a snake that'll live comfortably in a 10 gallon its whole life, a ball isn't the snake for you. Just something to consider

My 9-year-old male is 4 feet and 1800g. My 11-year-old male is 5 feet and 2500g. I did have a 5.5 foot male that was just under 3000g (and yes folks, he WAS a male), but I sold him as a pet. He was pretty cool...

My normal male ball is just under 3 feet long and he's only a year and a half old. He hasn't been the most reliable eater either.

My het albino male is about 28 inches long and is just over a year old. He is a super eater too.

Hope this helps
