Hondo size...

donv Sep 03, 2007 05:27 PM

Just wandering what length the average hondo is at two years. I realize that they come in all sizes. This guy is presently about 40" or so. Any predictions on future total length?

The average adult length is 4-5 feet. They can get bigger than that though. Norm Damm has a couple 6-footers. I don't know if anyone has any much bigger than that. There's a photo of a large one in an old issue of "The Vivarium," but it's unclear as to how long the snake actually is.

Like Tim said,....They average, when fed at a moderate rate at between 4-5 ft. long. However, there are always exceptions to everything...........there are many factors that when all are combined, will(can) greatly influence their growth, and ultimate
length.

Feeding schedule, size of prey offered, temperature, genetic pre-disposition(size of parents)all will effect this.

Snakes NEVER stop growing throughout their entire lives, even as old adults,......they just grow much slower when full adulthood is reached.

As a rule, the Andean, Ecuadoran, and Black Milksnakes can get larger than most Hondurans.........but years ago, Shannon Brown was shown holding a nearly eight foot Honduran for an article, but that was an EXTREMELY large individual.

I'd also guess that yours will probably be in the 4'6" to 5' range when fully grown.

this is a 8 foot honduran and Luis Porras claims he has seen a handfull this size over the many years he went down to Honduras to the farms were all the collecters brought them in.
Myt largest is about six foot.I have never actually seen a seven foot honduran But I have a couple Black Milks that are right at 7 foot now.
