Good Beginer Book?

Dyn Sep 03, 2007 07:58 PM

I've been lurking these forums for a long time now and I'm planning on getting a boa in the near future. Probly next 3 months or so saving up to buy a nice cage thinking of just getting a 6 foot boaphile cage so I dont really ahve to worry about caging again and have everything ready for when I get it.

I've been reading a good bit of care sheets and such but would probly like an accual book to go through and read while I wait.

If anyone was wondering I was thinking of getting a Suri because I love their tails and how they seem to mostly stay a nice red.

By Vin Russo is the best!

May not be the best idea to start with a huge cage, can lead the baby to not feel secure which can lead to stress that causes other problems. If you are set on starting with a Suriname be sure to buy a true CBB from a very reputable Suriname breeder. Suris, and BCC in general are not always the best choice for a first boa because they are not as forgiving to novice mistakes as other boas. Though as long as you are well prepared you shouldn't have any problems.

Good luck!

I've read that and also read as long as you supply a decent amount of hides they should be fine.

I am pretty set on a Suri and I'm trying to be as prepared as possible for it.

Ditto on "The Complete Boa Constrictor".

If you want a Suri get a Suri. They can be less forgiving than a B.c.i. but if you keep temps right and don't stress them out (handling before eating or after) they should be fine. Feed the right size meal also.

The 6 ft. cage will be fine, you might want to put a hide on both sides of the cage (warm/cool) till it is a couple years old.
