Well....My thoughts are that snails available for fish tanks are getting more restricted and therefore more expensive. So for a tiny tasty snack you are gonna pay more. Here 'mystery' snails WHOLESALE for 85 cents each. Retail is generally a 2.5 to 3 X markup. That is an awfully expensive snack even to me (who gets stuff wholesale) Personally I spice up my sav's food with Hissing cockroaches, free Guinea hen chicks my vet gives me(he is soft hearted and can't cull his own flock), or the bunnies from a mowed over nest.
I ain't even gonna get into parasitology and snail carriers. I just know my husband cringes when I mention that sort of thing. Though he does enjoy watching my Fahaka puffer-Imotep, pop and eat mystery snails.....even if they are expensive. I balance that with free crayfish from a bait picker freind. For the puffer fish, not the monitor.
