Ptenopus Kochi (Barking Gecko)

antonm Aug 21, 2003 01:14 AM

I found several different species with the same common name barking gecko. The ptenopus kochi however seems very cool looking (fishead from the pictures I saw) and I wanted to know if anyone has ever had one or is possibly breeding/selling one. I only saw 2 pictures in a book I have at work and couldnt find much info online. Thanks in advance.

I know hardly anything about these geckos (Ptenopus). I don't know that anyone has kochii in the US, although it is possible there are a handful in the states. I know that I have heard Ptenopus garrulus (aka Barking Gecko or Bulldog Gecko) has proven very tough to breed for some keepers. This is only what I have heard, it is not personal experience (I don't even have any). I think you should set your sights for another gecko. Ptenopus garrulus aren't as common to come by as many other geckos. Hope this helps a little even though I couldn't provide much info.

Thanks a lot for the input on it. I just saw them in a gecko book we have at the shop and they looked extremely cool. Their face looks like a fish and they burrow from what I read. Perfect for a small desert tank that I wanted to set up. If anyone has any info or breeders of any Ptenopus geckos, it would be appreciated.
