New Baby Easterns!!!!!!!!!!!

lcfish10 Sep 04, 2007 09:56 AM

for you all that are interested........my first wild caught eastern's few eggs hatched this weekend. i received the collared when she was gravid. one on friday evening that i observed from the time it's little snout came through until 2.5 hours later when it was totally free from the shell. the other one was out and running around when i returned home 2 days later. active little guys and yes.......they have an attitude already.
fiesty little suckers. like to jump in a circle and attack my little finger. one is a runt in yellow/black/tan and the larger one is mostly yellow with some aqua and very large black circles. they came from west texas.
now, i am open for suggestions......they don't eat yet and they don't drink yet. i guess that will come naturally? i sprayed the tank lightly and dropped a few baby crickets in the tank.
the tank is 78 degrees on the cool side and 86 degrees on the warm side. is that about right? the bottom is lain with paper towel. am i doing the right thing?
again, i am open for suggestions as to what's next.
thanks for the help in the past and you folks with the excellent pictures, what camera are you using?
what an exciting moment in the jim kendrick household!!!!!!!!
unreal!!!!!!!!!
take care

Ahhh always such a happy experience to see them hatch and watch as they run around and gain their footing, hehehehe.
I would say get your temps up Jim, kind of the same as adults.
Atleast 100 at the basking spot and high 80's to 90 for the rest of the tank. Make sure you use a uvb strip light too.
Paper towels are fine, they usually eat anywhere from the 3d day to a week or so after hatching. So from about the 3d day on... I do drop a few tiny crickets in and observe if anyone is eating yet.

Make sure there are no crickets in there hiding at night when the hatchlings go to bed, the crickets can bite them pretty badly.

All sounds great, now we need to see the babys,

A Big congratulations !

They may not look down here, and will be lost in the shuffle of posts. That would be a shame they would miss the new youngsters. See ya up there,
