CHINA DAILY (Beijing) 28 August 07 Crowds scare snake into freeing toad
A snake that was about to swallow a palm-sized toad in downtown Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, last Wednesday was so terrified by the noisy onlookers that it fled in panic.
People were shocked to see the 1-meter-long snake bite the head of a toad in a green belt, on Wednesday morning. The snake then wound itself around the toad and when it finally became still, tried to swallow it, but it was too big. As more people gathered to look at this curious scene, the terrified snake slithered away into the nearby forest. Staff from the local wildlife animal protection station searched the area later, but failed to find the snake.
