MS Press: Taco Bell Snake-incident

Sep 05, 2007 01:04 PM

HATTIESBURG AMERICAN (Mississippi) 30 August 07 Snake-throwing incident closes restaurant early (Terry L. Jones)
A Taco Bell drive-through employee gave new meaning to the popular slogan "Run for the border" when someone tossed a snake at her through the restaurant window Tuesday night.
Hattiesburg resident Lyssa Prine said she and a friend were making a trip to the Taco Bell at 4908 Hardy St. around 10:30 p.m. After a lengthy wait in the drive-through line, they were told by a restaurant employee that the eatery was closing for the night because there was a snake inside.
"We drove through the drive-through and no one would answer. Then an employee ran out and said the car in front of us had thrown a snake through the window," Prine said.
She said moments later the drive-through employee ran out of the restaurant and said that she couldn't handle it and quit.
"She was so frustrated," Prine said. "After a few choice words, she just ran out."
A person who identified himself as the manager on duty Wednesday denied the snake incident occurred. But Hattiesburg Animal Control officials confirmed there was a snake in the restaurant.
"We got called out, located the snake and removed it," said Luther Moore, division manager for animal control. "It wasn't a very large snake in diameter, but it was pretty long."
Prine said an officer identified it as a non-poisonous chicken snake, also known as a rat snake.
Moore said the snake was taken outside of city limits and released.
Prine said she couldn't see the individuals in the vehicle in front of hers, but described their vehicle as a white Jeep.
"There were like four people in the car," she said.
When asked if she would be making another late night trip to Taco Bell in the near future, Prine said, "No, not for a while."

KLBJ (Austin, Texas) 20 September 07 Taco Bell Employees Say Snake Prank Wasn’t Funny
Employees at a Round Rock Taco Bell says a prank pulled on them is no laughing matter.
Sunday night, witnesses say three men in a white pick-up truck threw a three foot live python through the drive-thru window. Employee Russel says he and his co-workers were suspicious of the men when they paid for their meal in handfuls of change. He says none of the people working at the fast food restaurant on Sam Bass Road and I-35 knew the men. He says he thinks it was a random prank.
“I’m an animal lover, and it’s really messed up that they did that,” says Russel. He says “
People shouldn’t be doing that. Working drive-thru is already a pretty stressful job.”
Police responded to the scene after Russel and his co-workers managed to get the snake in a box.
The snake is now with a woman who works at a Thundercloud Subs location next to the Taco Bell.
The men are described as being in their mid-twenties. According to witnesses, they were driving a white pick-up truck with “For Sale” written on it. Round Rock Police say they are looking for suspects.
