Feels like Tuesday OT pics....(for Jeff)

rainbowsrus Sep 05, 2007 04:30 PM

and anyone else who cares to look.

Took some pics over yesterday and today of some of my largest BCI, had some cage cleaning to do anyways and they were looking pretty good. While I was at it, got soem weights as well.

First up is Cinnamon, she's a Salmon (pos super) from 2003, forgot to copy her weight but I beleive was 15 lbs and some ounces:

Next was my buddy Reeses, definitely one of my fav BCI's, he's a Pastel Salmon from Summit reptiles 2005 litter. He weighed in at 7 lbs, 15 oz:

Don't do this at home but I tossed in Hook for color reference.

Next up is (BCI) Amber, a super salmon pos jungle from 2005. Weighed in at 15 lbs, 11 oz

Then it was Snickers turn, also a Salmon pos jungle from 2005, he weighed in at 9 lbs, 11 oz.

Right below Snickers was Spirit, a ghost from 2005, she weighed in at 15 lbs, 10 oz

Then a couple of albino Males, York is an albino het snow from 2004, weighed in at 9 lbs, 11 oz

And Dagwood, an albino pos het stripe also from 2004, he weighed in at 8 lbs, 8 oz Dunno if he'd qualify as a coral or not but wow the color's starting to pop on him, check out the blush on his cheeks...

Last one for today was Tootsie, a 2005 Anery het albino, she weighed in at 13 lbs, 9 oz

Hope y'all enjoyed!!!

BTW, all the "in tub" pics were in a rubbermaid tub. Forget the dims but somewhere around 30" x 18"

looks like you will have a busy bci season this year and next lol very very nice animals that color comparison between the brb and bci was cool even tho i dont like even putting balls together for pics lol very very nice i think i need to invest in a drool guard for my keyboard tho thanks to you lol

Thanks Tim, looking very much forward to 2008, should be a majorly cool year for me, even if only half of what I have going takes hold, I'll be inundated with a huge variety of babies!!

Yeah, I was a bit apprehensive putting them so close but as I was bringinh Hook in neither seemed to care about the other in the least. Both wanted to just leave the area so I only got the one halfway decent shot.

Send me your address and I'll send you a plastic bag for your keyboard. Hmmmm clear so you can type or black to totally mess you up!!! Decisions decisions!!

Ohhhhhh... beautiful!

I love Salmons. They are among my favorite BCI morphs (that look nice as adults. I wish Albinos kept their nice, light baby colours.)

Anyhow, Salmons are on my someday list, along with a Snow, and a Super Melanistic... the latter two are kind of out of my ken at the moment, and I don't even know if the Super-mels will be available any time in the near future.

either a very dark type 2 anery nic or a super motley since asuming a super mel would be in termers of hyper mel wich would be increased black but i could be way off lol

Yes I also love that boa and I have been eyeing it up for quite sometime now. He has had two litters I believe but I don't think any of the offspring are available though. They are anery type I's that are at the very extreme end of dark so calling it hypermelanistic is correct. Very very cool boa indeed and yes I want one too

I know how you feel, I've always loved color in my snakes and yes, black is a color

That and I want to be able to breed them, my only reason for not having any BCC (yet). Once I get the BCI breeding thing going, I may just have to expand into BCC!

I don't have any big snakes Dave but your bci males seem pretty big and females have great weight if you can only get them in the mood and you would babies coming out of the yin yang. Cinnamon looks good as does Reeses' of course and I was wondering your feeding schedule for your males and females. Every week for your females and every 3 weeks for the males? I read that Jeff gives his suri females 2 rats a week I believe and I was wondering how you did yours out of curiosity
Bob

rainbowsrus Sep 05, 2007 07:34 PM

I feed my females once a week, the largest rat I can find. If not that big, I sometimes give the bigger girls seconds. Like em lean and strong.

The males get fed a smaller rat every other(ish) week. Again, lean and strong is fine with me.

I've seen soooooo many pics of females that were big fat pigs, that can't be best for breeding!!

In case anyone is wondering why Dave posted these PICs and mentioned me in the subject line. I think that many of the Bci morphs are not particularly pretty as large adults. On the Boa Forum the people who breed them often show photos of pretty little ones but only rarely show PICs of their big adults. On the other hand the Surinam breeders and keepers often show PICs of their big adults. Several weeks ago I asked Dave to post PICs of his larger morph Bci. Some people accuse me of being "anti morph". I happen to like ALL snakes. However, I am not as impre$$ed with morphs as most people on the kingsnake.com forums seem to be. It seems to me that the value of a snake should be based on three things....beauty, rarity and suitability as a pet. I know that the concept of beauty is subjective but most of the Bci morphs as adults are far less pretty than Bcc. Morphs are not rare. There are thousands of morphs of all sorts of reptiles and many of them are being bred in very large numbers. Bcc are harder to breed than Bci and they are imported less often than Bci so they are rarer in US collections than Bci. I have a hard time understanding why Bci morphs that are more common than Bcc and not as pretty should be worth a whole lot more money.

Great post, Jeff. Everytime I look at the boa ads, I'm thinking, "who is buying all these high dollar snakes, and if there are so many, why do they cost so much?" Maybe others have a different/additional criterion - genetics. (I must admit I have a great interest in genetics, but at the same time that doesn't translate to a willingness to pay big bucks for a commonly available morph.) Or maybe "anery 100% het for albino motley" just sounds cooler than "normal" to some. Not that I'm knocking it, whatever makes one happy...

I wonder if the demand is really there, or are sellers really selling all these morphs for lower than advertised prices?

Thanks,
Ed

I think there will be motleys like crazy in two to three years time and the price will drop dramatically. Top notch motleys will great triangle side patterns and small hexagons leaving a significant amount of dorsal striping left on the sides rather than having the blocked off sadddles and white blocks in a colored tail (my definition of a great motley) will holds its value but others will fall to about 2k or a little less I predict. Also Sharp albinos were 3k in late '06 and this year about 2.5k so in two years time they will be likely 1.5k -2k depending on how many snows and sunglows are produced using the Sharp strain but prime examples of this morph will demand high dollar if you are looking for great breeder stock. Hell top of the line hypos will cost 1-1.5k and hypos are a dime a dozen but these stand out dramatically from the rest. Here is a pic of a motley that I would like to have

I would like to think that the real high dollar morphs such as the albino motley, super motley and paradigms are bought with funds raised by snake sales meaning money that's just recirculating in the snake community but somewhere or another someone has to make a profit I mean 5k for a het boawoman hypo hahahahahaha that's funny. take care Ed
Bob

natsamjosh Sep 07, 2007 05:45 PM

Hey Bob,

That is a very nice snake, no doubt. Still, $2K AFTER the prices drop? And that's for the lesser ones?? Wow. I hope you can get
one soon, but personally I couldn't do it. I guess I didn't realize there were that many people buying these expensive morphs.

I looked up that boawoman morph, didn't even look that nice.
And a het for boawoman was listed at almost $4K.

Unreal.

Take care,
Ed
