Odd female tokay behavior

Davy_vain Aug 21, 2003 07:14 AM

Hey all, my largest Tokay female has been acting strangely lately, she is drinking alot but didnt feed with the others last week, she seems to want to be left alone aswell and doesnt climb on the walls as much instead hides in logs, i'm not sure whether she is trying to lay eggs or not?, she hasn't lost any weight and is about 7 yrs old. A male was introduced to her about 6 monthes ago and i have often heard noises from them???

any ideas?.

thanks...

has she ever been bred or been housed with a male before. kind of sounds a little like being gravid but mine usually stop eating 1-3 days before laying. could possibly be some sress from this new tokay. mine are being skittish now because their guarding their eggs. ive removed or covered with deli dishes all eggs layed so far and they have 6 right now that im letting them hatch out.

I dont think she is stressed as they have been together for a while, there is also another smaller female in the tank but she is no hassle and they often sit together.
I have never bred her before but am excited at the thought of it, she is around 14" and very large in the head and body, tail etc....
I will have to keep an eye on her but i noticed she has now chosen a hollow log to sit on and inside so maybe that will be her site....?, she was meant to eat on monday and it's now fri, so i am not too worried yet, we'll see

thanks for your help.

Mine often stops climbing and starts hiding when he's about to shed. I guess the shed on his pads make him slide down the glass so he goes and finds logs on the ground and so forth. He still climbs trees and stuff with his nails though...then again, this is a HE.
