blaptica dubia food

dragonbreeder Sep 06, 2007 06:07 PM

Hey guys,
Just wanted to start a string on what you are feeding your feeder dubias...

Some seem to be using dog food, others cat food. What about 50/50 dog and cat food mixed? Thoughts and what you are currently using would be appreciated.

Well, I can tell you what I'm using but my colony isn't yet a month old and I haven't seen any apparent new births so I don't know how well it is working.

Currently feeding my B. Dubia, 50 mixed sizes in a black covered 10 gal with plenty of egg crates... non-medicated chicken starter mash and powdered rodent lab block. Occasional carrots, romaine lettuce, potato, slices of lime, grapes. Also provided with water crystals for another constant water source.

I use Kirkland (Costco) puppy food, ground fine in a food processor, I also give them oranges quartered and any other sweet fruits once a week. Have had them for years and the do great!! Hope it helps.

My staple is ferret food (ground in blender) mixed about 2-to-1 with whatever non-sugary breakfast cereal is on sale. Ferret food has higher protein than dog or cat food. I mix in a little cricket food with this and some vitamin powder.

I use water crystals and toss in whatever raw fruit or vegetable scraps I happen to have around. I change the fruit or veggies every 3 days, change the dry food about once a week (maybe longer).
