Striped Pastel and a genetics question

dbherp Sep 07, 2007 06:05 PM

I produced this guy last year by breeding a male Pastel to what I assumed was a normal female. I know I've seen similar snakes produced. Just wondering if anyone has proven this genetic or if it's just a fluke.

I know there is a genetic stripe but im pretty sure it is a resecive trait. If you got that from breeding a pastel to a "normal" then maybe your normal is somekind of new dom or co-dom or mabye it just resembles mom a little i dont know. I know they do get traits from both parents even if one is normal for example they say if u breed a pastel to a lighter normal the pastels will come out lighter than they would if you had breed it to a darker normal (this is what i hear not experiance speaking). I dont know but either way thats a pretty sweet looking snake hope you prove it out (if it hasnt been already).

Does it have Lemon in it??????

That looks like it and that is what many of them do....the stripe and all.

The sire was a Lemon male. Have you guys produced any striped supers? Any pics?

Yes....always with some broken striped but the Lemon Pastel is also a pattern mutation.

I don't know if I have any good pics...working on the new site, I'll try to have some there. I generally don't try to make supers but breed them to other mutations...

I produced a similar looking female from breeding my Bell line male to a normal girl. She doesn't have as much of a stripe as yours but the pattern is similar. The mother is partially striped, so thought that was why. I like them, especially with the connected eye stripe. I was thinking about messing around with them to see if I can produce one with a full stripe, just for fun (it was my first clutch so I wanted to keep them all anyway, lol). Sorry about the bad picture, she would not hold still. I'll have to take some new ones.

Do you have pictures of mom?

It's a real long shot but maybe that's a specter pastel. Breed it to a yellow belly and find out. It's a male though, right? Unfortunate, as it would be hard to dedicate an adult female yellow belly to that chance when you could breed her to a yellow belly gene male instead have a for sure shot at ivory instead.

I thought exactly the same thing Randy. But if Kevin's saying it's just somthing that Lemons do sometimes then I'm not going to put him to my YB female. I will probably put a YB or an Ivory male to mom...just to see what comes out.

Sounds like an excellent plan.

Does mom have a clear belly by the way? I don't know what the specter belly is supposed to look like but gather that it's distinctive in some way.
