Help.. new desert ig

emvee Sep 07, 2007 07:33 PM

I just received my new male desert iggy. His stool seems a bit looser than my two females and he has a very small amount of goo coming from the eyes(I think?). It is not very much so it is hard to tell if that is what it is. Any recommendations on what is going on, if it seems dangerous, and the steps I should take?

thank you for any help provided
-Matt

is it possible that this is just a result of the flight from florida to california? or is it something more serious?

Hi Matt,

Hard to say whats going on with your new iggy but first make sure he's not near the girls.

I would then try and clean his eys with a cotton ball/ warmish water, and get him set up and see how he does as far as basking, eating so on. May be parasites/may need to have a fecal done on him. The eye goo may be from being in the dark container, but watch that also. Sometimes messy sandy eyes can be a sign of a respiratory/bacterial infection.

I would also let the person you bought him from know that these are things you saw when he arrived, and will keep him updated as far as his condition. Just so he knows you got him like this incase something were to happen or for medical purposes.

I sure hope he will be okay, and he's just a bit stressed, let us know. I have had my iggy for atleast 4- 5 years and never dealt with that...

thanks for the help eve. I contacted the guy I bought it from and we are staying in contact about it until I can get the lizard(and fecal sample) to a herp vet on monday(hopefully). He is eating a fairly normal amount at the moment, so that is good. The goo is probably as you say, and just from the dark. I only saw it once, cleaned it off, and haven't seen it since.
