Pastel het pied

sweetdreams Sep 08, 2007 04:11 AM

Does the pastel het pied have the markers? Does anyone have pics of a pastel het pied showing its marker?

As far as I know the marker is not conclusive and some normals have it as well.

Both true, not all het pieds have the het indicator stripes on the belly and some normals have them.

But still there seems to be way too many het pieds with it for there not to be something to it, even if it isn't a perfect indicator.

I'd also be interested in knowing how the pastel which already has a clear belly interacts with the pied het belly when present.

On page 2 of the 2006 photo gallery on Graziani's web site he has posted pictures of pastel and spider het pieds with some very interesting dorsal patterns. I believe I've also seen some more normal looking het pied pastel and spider pictures too. Maybe something else was going on with those animals but it certainly would be interesting if you could use het pied indicators to increase your chances when trying to start a pastel or spider pied project with possible het pieds.

I have a couple of girls that have the marker. Every het I produced this year has the marker. I know some people doubt it, but I think it's a bit different looking than the typical striped belly. I'll try to get some pics up today.

I really think the pied gene influences the pattern as well as the belly. I can't remember if mine displays the het pied belly marks or not at the moment. I'll snap a belly shot and post it when I get home.
