What does everyone do with all of their babies?

lytnin May 22, 2003 07:48 AM

I am new to beardies and have been on this forum for long enough to see everyone's babies hatch...and purchase one of my own! It seems like everyone on this forum that breeds their beardies end up with quite an addition in the dragon department as far as quantity goes...I realize that a lot of people sell their babies on the internet, but is this what everyone does?
Do some people sell to petstores, etc?
I was just curious...I know that I wouldn't have any idea of what to do with 20 new beardies...I have a hard enough time making time to completely spoil the one that I have...
Just wondering b/c I haven't heard of anyone saying if they intended to keep all of their babies, and if so...what they plan to do with them.
I'm new to the game!!

I sell mine to distributors mostly. I have two near me. One of them I like one of them i try to avoid at all costs. I can sell them the dragons all at once from day of hatching (I usually don't do this) to whenever I want to. Last night I sold 13 babies to a pet shop. I was going to keep them back as the parents where both nice and yellow, but I decided not to. I still have 5 for a few friends I know. I still may keep one if there are a few females in there. At the end of the season I may scrap some of my normal females and go into breeding strictly colors. But maybe not. Who knows.

Hi

I'm a first time breeder and currently have 20 eggs in the incubator...
When they hatch I plan to sell them locally (but not to pet shops) and advertize them online as well.
And I may have to keep 1 or 2 for myself
heehee, they're sooo darn addicting....

We have a bit of a different situation, although we have several nice adult females, we are only breeding one that is very large and hearty. We want to strengthen the breeding line in the United States, and the next 40 or so are promised to good breeders.

We also raise really healthy babies and monitor them closely, they do not leave until they are four months, then they are given to homes where owners lost previous beardies to either adenovirus or yellow fungus, I monitor a group on Yahoo called pogona_diseases and these owners have been through so much with their bearded dragons, and its ovious to see the heartbreak they have suffered over animals they loved so much.

These babies get excellent homes and really spoiled, and the new owners get to experience a very different type of dragon and know the joy that can be had with raising a healthy baby opposed to one that was sick from the start.

One will go to his new home next weekend. The new owners are a family with a 12 year old son that lost one to adenovirus at 10 months of age, she had it from hatchling and they really tried with her and went through so much. The are driving from North Carolina to Florida to pick him up as I will not ship them.

Another went last month to a girl in Largo, Florida that had lost three beardies to yellow fungus within 3 weeks... now that one is spoiled!!! this is his picture in his new home, he's 6 months and about 17 inches.

You are a very good-hearted person to do something like that...where in FL do you live?
