Boas temperment?

MannyRottie Sep 08, 2007 11:55 AM

I have a bunch of ball pythons and for the most part they ae fairly sweet, but I have 2 of them that are Satans spawn. I am planning on breeding them, but I want to purchase a boa as a pet. Therefore I must be able to handle her without getting bit a few hundred times. I have heard good things about boas and bad things. Any advise or any particular type is more docile than others? Males better than females? Or is it hit or miss. Thank you

They are usually docile, but all snakes are different.

BCI are calmer and almost always better tempered than BCC...

I have an an adult female, subadult female, and subadult male BCI. They are all three very sweet and docile. Hope this helps.

Let me make a suggestion. If you want a docile boa, rescue one or buy one that is an older individual, one that has been handled a lot and is already calm. This is your best shot for getting a calm boa. Then it is up to you to handle it enough to keep it that way. In my neighborhood there are lots of adult boas in the reptile rescue, and if I wanted a calm pet, I would rescue one of those boas. But even if you buya boa, you can look for an older individual that has had a lot of handling, or has been a pet.
