Egyptian Uro Questions....

toyota85 Sep 08, 2007 07:50 PM

I am thinking I of purchasing a single or possibly a pair of egyptian uros. I would like to ask a few questions about their care and what not first. I have read the deer fern farms care sheet and what not. I was just wondering what their temperaments are like? Do they calm down with time and handling? Whats the average size they reach and how long does it take for them to reach it? When I was younger I had a iguana that we would take outside with us and let him chill in the yard with supervision, Am I going to be able to do this with the egyptians when they are full grown? or are they flighty? Lastly could some of you post some pics of your egyptians and their cages? Any size comparison pics of adults would be great to. Thanks

I had an egyption a few years back named Mo. I got him as a tiny little baby and raised him up. At 5 years he was about 24 inches overall at that time. He was very very tame . I also held him pretty often through the years. He was so mellow, that my sone took him to show and tell while he was in 4th grade . Mo had about 30 kids touching all over him and handled it just fine lol !!! I would still have him if i hadn't moved into a small apartment and have to give him to a friend. Remember these are pretty large lizards and very active and need a large enclosure . Mo's cage was about 48x30x30 and therefor too large for where I was moving. So, if you got the space go for it !!! There the best !!! I now have a pair of ornates !! Jerry

egyptians are my favorite. very interesting to watch. noble lizards. awe inspiring as adults. only have a youngsta- he is about a year old and 12" and fat. got him last summer 4-5" the most and NOT fat(not sickly but definately not fat).i heard five years brings it to about 24" somewhere, also. he is in a 4x2 and i am SLOWLY building a cage by spring 6x3x3. if you have room do it.
