I just got home from the White Plains Reptile Show. I wound up buying a baby Biak GTP. I have been checking out this forum for a few weeks debating on wether I wanted one or not and after seeing them at the show I had to get one. All they had was the Biaks, from what I been reading these are the nastiest? I bought some frozen fuzzies to feed him..whens the best time to feed a GTP? At night when they are active or during the day? Any other good sites I can get some more info from? THanks

Feeding at night is usually your best bet as they are actively hunting then. If this is an import, I would get a fecal done as soon as possible. Not all Biaks are nasty, but most are a bit fiesty.

They said that it was a captive hatched snake. Should i still get a fecal done? What can this test show? THanks

Yes, captive hatched is another way of saying farm bred and imported. Only if it's U.S.captive born and bred is it from here. That's one of the deceiving things I hate about chondro sales. Who did you get it from?

For good sites you can go to www.finegtps.com greg has a good section on husbandry for people there. It's also a good idea to buy his book. Has all the info you'll ever want. There's also the chondro forum and the morelia viridis forum for further info.

congrats on the new chondro...It is the most addicting hobby I have ever dealt with, however it can be heart breaking at the same time if certain criteria arent met:

-I see you are using an exo-terra cage, make sure your humidity is correct (if you havent already, you probably will need something to cover the screen top)

-Get a fecal, Meg is telling the absolute truth about 'captive hatched' being synonymous with farm bred, I lost my second gtp I purchased (a biak as well) because I didnt catch a host of problems that a fecal would have let me know the little guy had...so now I get them for all of my new purchases (import or true USCBB)

-Research Research Research...you can never know too much about GTP's, they arent the type of animal you can impulse buy and toss in a cage and think things are going to be ok without dilligent committment on your part. I recommend buying The More Complete Chondro by greg maxwell, and utilizing the forums for any other questions you may have.

Enjoy the little one, and prepare yourself for an addiction.
