States with restrictions on sliders?

Katrina Sep 09, 2007 04:52 PM

Does anyone know of other states that have state restrictions on the possession or sale of sliders or turtles under 4"?

Here's what I have so far:

- NJ does not allow the sale of turtles.
- VA does not allow the sale of native or naturalized reptiles - RES are considered naturalized, yellowbellied sliders (YBS) are native.
- FL does not allow the sale of "normal phase" RES any longer (YBS are native).
- NC does not allow the sale of Emydidae turtles (including sliders).
- OR does not allow the possession of RES - not sure about YBS.
- MD does not allow the sale of turtles under 4" (state health code regulation).

Did I miss any?

I forgot to add:

- OH requires a permit to sell or possess RES.

Although Maryland has passed a similiar law, the law prohibiting the sale of turtles under 4" is a Federal Law so it applies in all states.

Yes, I know. It's often easier to have laws enforced if they're on the state books as well, though.

N.J. laws prohibit the sales of all turtles within the state. The state does allow you to possess them with the standard exotic animal permit issued by the state.
