Well, not really. But our beautiful 20 month old crested female has now laid two separate clutches of eggs (4 total). I know it is not unusual for geckos to lay infertile eggs, but isn't it unusual to get multiple clutches? (I'm a bit more versed in leopard gecko behavior, where one infertile is normal, two is ok, but you don't get multiple layings.)
On the one hand I am very relieved she isn't binding or anything, but obviously I am worried about the continued stress on her body. Is there anything I can do to reduce the chance of another set? (I think lowering temps is to stop breeding, or is it egg production as well?)
I haven't been able to get a good look in her mouth to check her calcium. Should I be supplementing her? How? (I know a leo would get a pinky, but I'm lost on cresteds.)
Details if important: she is of breeding weight (if not a bit above, she lives up to her nickname of Poohbear and is stuffed with fluff), has essentially a 20gal tall enclosure, top half is screen, bottom is glass for humidity. Eats CGD with dusted/loaded crickets once a week. Temps just under 80F in the daytime, 74F at night, misted with bottled water daily. She gets light by sitting next to the leopard gecko cage which shines indirectly in her one corner, that light is on a timer. She has a hide, water bowl, food bowl, fake tree, three leaf vines, and a hardwood ladder. Papertowel substrate and house liner. (She makes little nests around her eggs with this too.) The only male in the apartment is my boyfriend who feeds her, the only other pet we have is a female leo who lives next to her.
Thank you all in advance for any advice!
