I started on my new box turtle enclosure this weekend, just fave to finish the screened in top. Sat morning found three eggs buried in the substrate but they were all busted. what do you guys use for nesting sites?

I am sorry to hear about the eggs.

I give my females choices. Box turtles seem to be less descriminating than my other species when it comes to laying substrate. Mine will lay in compost piles, bare dirt(clay), and underneath a thin layer of pea gravel at the edges of the "ponds". As long as there are no large obstructions, it is fair game. It seems to have more to do with sun exposure than anything else. If you're in the North, full sun. In the deep South, full shade. In between, dappled shade.

You may notice that each female will choose a spot and lay in the general area every time.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

The females here seem to consistently go for:

1)sunny

2)open

3)away from roots (see #2)
