The calf skin had a vertical black line in it the day after the vet visit (Fri). Two days later the skin seperated at the black line exposing the muscle and tissue. I called the vet to see if I should bring him back in. He said to put the ointment on it. I got home from work that night and the skin was gone. I think he might have ate it. There is a smooth piece of driftwood, a piece of flat slate and his water bowl in his enclosure no sand. That's why I was so worried. Once I put the ointment on the exposed tissue it turned into what you see in the pic. I called the vet yesterday to see if this was normal and apparently it is. As long as it isn't oozing liquids (puss or clear liquids). It's to keep the muscle from drying out and getting infected. I also asked what he thought could have caused this and he said the swelling of the calf was probably too much on the skin.
Now do you see why I was so worried?? It's awful looking and it looks like I abused him! He is being a trooper though. He hates taking his meds and being fed. I don't blame him, I don't like to put him through that. I'm hoping and praying that this thing blows over and he makes it through. I just want the old Albert back.
Thanks for listening and the help!
Carrie
