Reptile room construction

traceh Sep 10, 2007 02:10 PM

Well, I started hanging dry wall today in my new reptile room. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips? I am making two separate rooms in my basement, a quarantine room and a larger permanent room. The Q room alone will have 4 plugs on each wall. 2 of the plugs will be set into a heavy duty timer and 2 will be always hot. The plugs are different colors to distinguish between the two. I can't decide what type of ceiling or flooring I'd like to do. Pictures of other people's rooms would be great.

one of the biggest tips i can give you is try and get at least a hot water line run into the room for a sink basen like a laundry sink. it will help with clean up immensly. the other thing is ventilation a ceiling fan will really help in evening the rooms temps out. i used commercial grade carpet in my room for the simple fact that it cleans easily and is highly durable. ceiling choice is yours but mine is drywalled and painted if that helps.
if i think of anything else ill reply again

Have a lot of outlets and place them at an easy height to reach. If I could redo my room, I'd have a few outlets that dropped from the ceiling. Have a separate circut breaker for the room. Have an emergency shutoff just outside the room. A simple switch will do. A good ventilation fan. A deep sink. Polished concrete or linoleum floors. Make sure the cages are 6" off the ground.
