reptile laws in va?

teaspoon Sep 10, 2007 02:47 PM

I've often caught reptiles, keptthem a while, and then let them go, occationally something will lay eggs. This year I've hatched 5 painted turtles and 29 eastern hognose snakes from wild mothers. Is it legal to keep the babies? is it legal to sell them? i've heard that in Va, you are allowed up to 5 native specimens at one time, does anyone know of it is true? Does anyone know what the other Va laws are regarding breeding captive or native reptiles?

I've only investigated for turtles, but as far as I know it's only five individuals of each species. There are no such things as permits to breed or sell. No selling of native wildlife.
