Balangir (ENS): People usually shudder at the sight of snakes. But what if a man eats live snakes? Sounds weird, but this young man just loves to eat snakes! For Parama Garia of Birmunda, a nondescript village, 6 km from Balangir, eating snakes is like eating cucumber.
Parama first traps a snake, asks his friend to hold it straight and then bites the middle part. While the first part of the snake is gradually chewed mouth, the other part dangles on his friend’s hand. After relishing the first part, he picks up the second and within five minutes gobbles it up.
Parama had been doing this for the past 15 years. He started it as a hobby at Bhainsa, where a competition for eating the inedible was organised.
When Parama’s turn came, he picked up a snake and a brick and gobbled these up before the crowd with ease.
‘I have being eating snakes since the Bhainsa competition. It has never affected my health. Nor has it reduced my appetite,’ says Parama proudly. Parama can eat about five snakes at a time. Till now, he has eaten about 40 snakes. Parama has won several prizes for his weird habit. Besides snakes, Parama can also eat tile and bricks quite comfortably. ‘I can also eat insects, bricks and live fish,’ claims Parama.
